“Did you feel the earthquake in April?” I asked my guide as he drove me through the Himalayan peaks towards the capital city of Bhutan, Thimpu. “Yes. But little. It was like a break dance.”

  This reply set the tone to what I instinctively knew was going to be my most memorable trip to the Himalayas.

Gliding into pristine valleys

   It was a moment much awaited. My ears were ringing sharp waiting for the flight captain to say those magical words: “Ladies and gentlemen, while we are flying through a thick cloud cover, you can get a glimpse of the snow peaked mountains on the right.” That’s it. Camera out, finger on the shutter, I went clicking away. I was on the right side of the aircraft, and I could see those massive white caps atop the world’s largest mountain range, while the valleys and gorges opened up below me.

   A moment of bliss. And then came the....
