It was the first of its kind in the country. The pilot project, implemented in the districts of Thiruvananathapuram, Kozhikode and Palakkad, was later extended to all the districts in the state in two successive phases. This project, managed with the technical support of The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) Bengaluru, is being implemented by voluntary organizations.


Background

  Occurrence of atrocities, physical or psychological, against children is not unusual in the world. According to the estimates of the World Health Organization (WHO) 21 per cent of children have suffered from multiple atrocities and 75 per cent have suffered from moderate physical atrocities.

  WHO and member countries have enacted laws and taken other preventive actions to avert atrocities against children. Even so, the matter of the fact is that atrocities against children still do occur. Atrocity against children....
