Zinc is a chemical element with the symbol Zn and atomic number 30. It is a slightly brittle metal at room temperature and has a shiny-greyish appearance n pure form. Zinc is the 24th most abundant element in Earth's crust and has five stable isotopes. The most common zinc ore is sphalerite (zinc blende), a zinc sulphide mineral.

    Zinc is the second most abundant metal in the body, after iron. The average adult human has 1.5–2.5 grams of zinc, with about 60 per cent in skeletal muscle, 30 per cent in bone, 5 per cent in liver and skin, and the remaining 5 per cent in other tissues.
